Our Journey or Story

A journey of a thousand miles started with a single step of faith. For Emmanuel Church this journey started December 21st, 2003 when the Lord spoke to Pastor Jose Luis & Elizabeth Renteria about starting a Spirit based Bible-empowered church in Laredo, TX that would impact the people of South Texas and their surroundings. About a month later. On Sunday, January 25, 2004, Emmanuel conducted its first service at the home of a friend with about 15 people in attendance. Today we church more than 500 throughout the week. As our growth continues we are preparing for many years to come. At Emmanuel we recognize that  GOD has a specific plan and purpose for each person’s life. The broad scope and variety of Emmanuel Church ministries are simply a reflection of our heart to help people of all economic, social and ethnic backgrounds.

Core Values

EXCELLENCE

Our desire is to do everything with a spirit of excellence to our Lord Jesus Christ. This doesn’t mean that we do it to perfection, but it is our heart desire that part of our culture knows how to value the significance of giving our best to God. Colossians 3:23, ”3 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”

WORSHIP

God with a passionate and giving heart is fundamental in our spiritual life.  Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this  is your true and proper worship.

CHARACTER

A person’s character is not something that is brought upon birth but something that is affected by the environment, culture and social background. Radically the person’s character’s transformation is in search of the presence of God. Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control3 Against such things there is no low.”

GENEROSITY

All of our resources whether spiritual or material are gifts from God. We don’t live in fear of shortage, we live grateful for God’s provision. We commit ourselves to being obedient tithe givers that give with happiness and generosity from our hearts. 2 Corinthians 9:6, “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”

MENTORSHIP

We believe in the development and personal growth of each individual in relation to the teachings of Christ. 2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

HUMILITY

Humility is a virtue that consist of knowing our own limitations and weaknesses yet acting in accordance to the Word of God. Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.”

SERVITUDE

Servitude is helping in an attitude and aptitude towards serving God and other people. John 12:26 “Whoever serves Me most follow Me; and where I am, My servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”
